Cut costs, the first thing you do when you find yourself unemployed, is to look for places that you can cut your costs now, it does not necessarily mean that one should stop everything , but only reduced or look for cheaper alternatives. Expand employment opportunities, your number one priority is to look for another job. Instead of looking for a similar position, take the time to really assess your skills.

The mere fact you were let go that indicated that something is wrong either industry is not demanding your skills anymore, or you do not think you can buy. By simply adding another skill, you can expand your circle of opportunities. For example, an accountant who brushes up on his selling skills are much more leverage than usual salesperson, given their knowledge of numbers.
